Résumé du livre

A remarkable monument, located at the crossroads between Avignon, Arles, and Nîmes, the Château de Tarascon - together with those of Angers and Saumur - testifies to the power of the French dynasty of the dukes of Anjou, counts of Provence. Overhanging the Rhone Rivet, the remarkably preserved chateau is one of the most beautiful fortresses in Europe, a blend of medieval and Renaissance elements. Its thirty majestic rooms, whose painted ceilings are decorated with hybrid animals, are open to the public. The fortress also houses an exceptional collection of graffiti of ships, galleys, carracks, galleasses, and sloops carved by prisoners jailed from the 15th century to 1926. The Château de Tarascon, the property of the Commune de Tarascon, promotes dialogue between built heritage and contemporary art for all sectors of society.

The « Itinéraires » series, designed as a guide for cultural tourism, invites the visitor to discover the highroads and byways of France's national heritage.
